Almost a week after 26 protestors were killed and dozens more injured, families and supporters came out for a vigil in the middle of Talaat Harb Square on Thursday night.
The crowd consisted of the young and elderly alike, and when activists led chants, the clear theme was interfaith cooperation amidst increasingly autocratic SCAF policies. Although most of those present were standing quietly holding candles, the demonstration of solidarity slowed traffic and drew the attention of the public to a spot where, just a few nights earlier, crowds of Copts came face-to-face in confrontations with the army and police.
